A painter of "inner reality" as she liked to define herself, Dominique d'Acher (1929-1991) revealed herself on the French art scene with a singular art, hatched at the end of the 1950s away from the current of the Second School of Paris. An artist then engaged in informal art, she turned from the following decade on to atypical figurative research, centred on a quest for identity and a particular relationship to the body. These nascent foundations are based on what is called ineffable art, or "figurative" in the words of the philosopher Gilles Deleuze, an art that questions the limits of representation. Dominique d'Acher creates as she lives, listening to her intuitions, not hesitating to take her painting to the edge of the precipice to give it life. Alain Jouffroy, art critic and poet close to the artist, expresses it with his words when he evokes "the organic building sites of the unfinished where, with empty hands, she invites us to enter".
